In Chinese culture, round jade discs with a hole in the center, known as “Bi discs,” were produced and have been archaeologically documented since the Liangzhu culture (3300–2300 BCE). They were considered sacred objects and were often used as amulets, protective symbols, or grave goods to ease the transition to the afterlife. They could be regarded as precursors to modern gemstone donuts. As early as thousands of years ago, people wore these stone discs with holes on leather cords as talismans.
