Charoite

Charoite is a rare gemstone from Siberia that captivates with its range of violet hues and vibrant veining. Yet its true power lies in its spiritual significance. In

crystal healing, charoite is used to strengthen energy and determination. This mineral supports
the process of making important decisions and tackling large, labor-intensive projects.

It is considered a stone of transformation and change. Charoite helps overcome inner fears, release blockages, and develop confidence in one’s own life path. Its energy opens one’s eyes to what is essential, strengthens intuition, and promotes spiritual development.

The name charoite derives from the site where it was discovered near the Russian river Chara. The German name “Tscharoit” would therefore be more accurate, but it has not gained widespread acceptance in either retail or wholesale. Occasionally encountered spellings such as Chaoirt, Caroit, Charoid, or Charoiet, however, are incorrect.

• Appearance: Characteristic features include swirl-like patterns in shades of lavender, lilac, violet, and purple, often with white, black, or brown inclusions. Due to its fibrous structure, it sometimes appears silky or shimmering.

• Composition: A complex silicate mineral containing potassium, calcium, and sodium. It forms through contact metamorphism of limestone.

• Location: Found almost exclusively in Siberia (Russia) along the Chara River—hence the name.

• Hardness: 5–6 on the Mohs scale.

• Uses: Primarily for jewelry (cabochons, beads) and decorative carvings.
